LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Jan. 13, 2015 – Florida homeowners should think twice if a county property appraiser asks to see inside their home.
According to an alert issued by Lake County Property Appraiser Carey Baker, scam operators in in his area are falsely claiming that they're county property appraisers as a way to see the inside of homes.
Baker's office received several inquiries about property appraisers last Thursday, he says. The callers claimed to be representatives of Baker's office and asked to schedule a time when they could stop by.
While each county appraisers office operates differently, Baker said in his statement that residents "will never receive an unsolicited phone call from my office asking to see the inside of your home." He said Lake County property appraisers visit neighborhoods and new construction, but they check only home exteriors – they do not go inside.
